The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) presents Free Family Arts Day: Don’t Mess with Texas, Mess with Art on Saturday, August 11, 2018, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  AMSET invites families to kick off the new school year at this summer’s Family Arts Day!

Art activities are inspired by AMSET’s current exhibitions, Fresh: The James Kralik Collection and Paraíso y Presa including collages, God’s Eye craft, Amazing Alebrijes (Mexican folk art animals), McCleary Collage, The Nature of Printing, and Clay Creatures. Families will be given tutorials about how to make the crafts with repurposed materials to coincide with AMSET’s summer recycling theme, Don’t Mess with Texas, Mess with Art.

Sonny the Birdman and his parrots will be back with live performances at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in AMSET’s Lecture Hall. Complimentary cookies and punch will be provided.  A concession stand serving ballpark-style food will be available, as well as free face painting.  Throughout the day, AMSET will draw winners for baskets packed with art supplies along with backpacks full of school supplies for the new school year.

Admission to this event is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit or call (409) 832-3432.
