Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, on the Lamar University campus, will mark the 117th anniversary of the Lucas Gusher at Spindletop with a day packed with re-enactments, activities, craft demonstrations and entertainment.

“Every year the volunteers and museum staff work hard to bring new things to this annual event along with making it fun,” said museum director Troy Gray. “Discussions usually center on how to bring visitors back in time to 1901.”

The Anniversary event will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The fun will be led by The Big Thicket Outlaws, who will perform re-enactments and demonstrations. Musical guests will be the Back Porch Friends, a dulcimer group from Beaumont. Blacksmithing, printmaking and other demonstrations will also take place. Children will enjoy crafts and games from 1901 that include the game of graces, derrick toss, and more. The Lucas Gusher’s re-enactments will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. New this year will be photo opportunities with members of the re-enactment team at times throughout the day. A 1901 fashion show will also be held for visitors to learn about the clothes people wore. The language of the fan will also be demonstrated.

To get the most out of the day’s events, visitors will be able to buy food from the Beaumont Lion’s Club. Additionally, the local girl scouts will be taking orders for cookies.

Admission for the Anniversary event is $5 for adults, $3 for Seniors age 60 and over, and $2 for children ages 6-12. All visitors can receive free admission for wearing a 1901 era costume. Visitors also may get $1 discount if they purchase their tickets at the museum early.  The schedule of the day’s events can also be requested beforehand or be found on our web page, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
