The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) hosts major, fall exhibition, Sense of Home: The Art of Richard Stout, September 30 – December 3, 2017 in the main galleries.

On Friday, September 22, 2017, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., AMSET will host a free and open to the public opening reception featuring a gallery talk by Artist Richard Stout.  Complimentary hors d’oeuvres catered by Two Magnolias and beverages will be provided.

This exhibition is organized by AMSET and celebrates the abstract expressionist, often coastal inspired, paintings and sculptures of Houston artist Richard Stout.  Born 1934 in Beaumont, Texas, Stout is an acknowledged artist with international accolades and a significant following in Texas.  He was named the Texas State Artist of the Year in 2004, and his artwork is widely exhibited with critical acclaim.

Sense of Home: The Art of Richard Stout is a major retrospective featuring work from the 1950s through present day, attesting to the artist’s prolific career.  A monograph published by Texas A&M University Press will be available for sale in the AMSET gift shop.  Following the debut at AMSET, the exhibition will travel to the Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi and the University of Houston – Downtown, Houston in 2018.

This exhibition is generously funded, in part, by the Houston Artists Fund, Lee Ann and Terry Garth, the City of Beaumont, the Wesley W. Washburn, M.D. and Lulu L. Smith, M.D. Endowment Fund, the Texas Commission on the Arts and the C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers Charitable Foundation.
